Arundel is one step closer to having its own Neighbourhood Police Beat, with the Beattie Government finalising settlement on a property last week.
Police Minister Judy Spence and the Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor, have welcomed the news that settlement had been finalised on the purchase of a property at 295 Napper Road.
Ms Spence said the property is ideally located to provide a highly visible and accessible police presence to the community.
"This new Police Beat in Arundel represents a $387,000 investment by the Beattie Government to strengthen community-policing relationships in the area and improve community safety," Ms Spence said.
"Now that police have purchased the two-storey, four bedroom house, planning will start immediately to redevelop it as a beat by the end of the financial year.
"These facilities will support local police in their fight against crime by providing additional infrastructure and operational resources - as well an extra police officer."
Ms Spence said the beat was well situated in the beat area to provide targeted policing services, boosting the efforts of police from the Gold Coast Police District.
Mr Lawlor said the property is one of five new beat locations that will open on the Gold Coast in 2005/06 and will be a welcome boost to policing services in the region.
"Police Beats will be established in Arundel, Jacob's Well, Biggera Waters, Pacific Pines and Edens Landing as part of a three-year, $10 million election commitment by the Beattie Government to build 25 new beats across the State," Mr Lawlor said.
"Neighbourhood beats allow police to tailor services to the needs of the community and are an effective and proven method of reducing crime in the beat area.
"This government takes community safety issues very seriously and I am very pleased to see this important election commitment progressing."
Ms Spence said community safety will be boosted by strengthened local policing services, with support to be provided by police in the Gold Coast District to ensure all calls for service are met in the beat areas.
"The Neighbourhood Police Beat Program has expanded rapidly in every police region since it was launched in 1993," Ms Spence said.
"With 38 Police Beats operating across Queensland, we are helping police to work closely with residents to provide invaluable services to the community." Last changed: [PUBLISHED_DATE] at 2:20 PM
