Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor, said Department of Housing dwellings will be upgraded as part of the renewal activities in Molendinar.
Mr Lawlor said the Minister for Public Works and Housing, Robert Schwarten, had approved nearly $475,000 to upgrade twelve three-bedroom houses in Verdehlo Street.
"While the scope of work on each house may vary, the overall project will include upgrades painting, new fencing, pergolas and driveways," he said.
"Where necessary, kitchens, laundries and bathrooms will also be upgraded which will improve the quality of life for tenants and the attractiveness of their homes."
Mr Lawlor said the state government through the Department of Housing's renewal programs had greatly improved the quality of affordable housing in the area.
"The Beattie government has helped transform Molendinar by improving the visual appearance of the suburb, the quality of housing as well as community safety and pride through renewal activities," he said.
Mr Lawlor said the latest upgrades were expected to be completed at the end of November.
