Six state schools in the Southport electorate will share in $380,300 as part of a $50 million commitment by the Beattie Government to improve facilities for students.

Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor, today announced the successful local projects funded though the Government's $50 million School Community Development Fund.

"The projects funded under this initiative have been identified by the school community in partnership with the principal," Mr Lawlor said.

"Teachers and parents have been able to have a direct say in the best way of using these funds to improve the school learning environment.

"It's great news for our principals, teachers and especially parents and children."

Details of the funds and projects for local schools are attached.

Education and Training Minister, Rod Welford, said the amount of each grant had been determined by a range of factors, including the size of the school, enrolments and locality.

"These grants do not replace our existing capital works or maintenance programs - they are part of our long-term commitment to modernise state schools," Mr Welford said.

"Under our 'Tomorrow's Schools' program, we are committing $1 billion over the next five years to upgrade our schools, and these grants are part of that commitment."

The $50 million School Community Development Fund is part of the Beattie Government's $1 billion program 'Tomorrow's Schools - Providing for a Smarter Future'.
