Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor, today announced more than $56,000 for maintenance repairs to the Science Block at Keebra Park State High School. Mr Lawlor said the funding would allow for the replacement of all gas line recess covers in all Science Labs and Prep Rooms in Science Block C at the school. “The school is also receiving funding to remove and replace vinyl floors throughout the labs, hallways and prep rooms of the Science Block. “This funding is great news for the students, parents and teachers of Keebra Park State High School,” Mr Lawlor said. “I know from talking to teachers and parents that this work is important to the school community and I am delighted my representations to Public Works Minister Robert Schwarten have resulted in this funding becoming available.” Mr Lawlor said the funding for the project was provided through the Department of Public Works’ Special Building Needs program. “The Special Building Needs program was developed alongside existing maintenance programs to undertake projects that arise in the course of the year or that are unable to be completed by the school because of the cost,” he said. “This funding demonstrates the Bligh Government’s commitment to maintaining public infrastructure for the benefit of the community and ensures we are on the path to achieving our Toward Q2 targets of a stronger, smarter, fairer Queensland.” Mr Lawlor said the work would be programmed for completion as soon as possible, with every effort being made to minimise disruption to classes. QBuild – the State Government’s construction and maintenance division – will manage the project.Last changed: Feb 16 2010 at 12:01 PM
