Families in the Musgrave Hill area will benefit from improved school age care facilities as a result of a service improvement grant from the Department of Communities.
Musgrave Hill State School Outside School Hours Care service will receive $60,000 to help improve their services to local families.
The Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor, said Communities Minister Warren Pitt had advised that the funds would help the service meet the requirements of legislation governing child care.
"Under the legislation, it is necessary for service providers to meet infrastructure requirements which stipulate space and facility conditions.
"However, many of these services which existed prior to the legislation coming into effect need to make improvements to meet these requirements.
"I believe the Queensland Government has a role to assist these services to meet the requirements for the benefit of children and families across the state," Mr Lawlor said.
A total of $1,024,360 will be distributed to 44 service providers across Queensland that provide care for school age children outside of school hours.
This funding will assist the organisations in many ways, for example, by installing security lighting, increasing indoor space and enhancing service facilities.
The Department of Communities has provided funding for improvements to school-age care facilities for a number of years and will soon announce a further funding round.
"Child care facilities help many families - enabling parents to work, relieving families under stress and providing programs for children.
"This round of funding will help 44 services and a similar amount will soon be made available to further help service providers meet legislative requirements," Mr Lawlor said.
