65th Queensland Government’s Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund Announcement

Minister responsible for gaming and Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor announced the 65th funding round today, which will assist 43 South East Queensland groups to undertake community-focussed projects.

“Finding the funds to enhance services, improve leisure activities and increase local opportunities for community groups can be difficult, particularly in these tough economic times,” Minister Lawlor said.

“While everyone in Queensland is trying to tighten their belts, save and survive financially, fundraising for improved facilities can be near impossible.

“That is why now, more than ever, community groups need our support,” Minister Lawlor said.

Food Care Inc will share in more than $1 million approved for the 65th funding round and use their grant to replace their commercial fridges and freezer.

Since the inception of the Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund in 1987 more than 3,150 grants have been allocated, totalling over $79 million.

The fund is generated from a levy placed on the gaming revenue of Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast and Treasury Casino in Brisbane.

It services an area from the Queensland/New South Wales border to the northern boundaries of the central Queensland regions of Boulia, Winton, Barcaldine and Isaac.

Applications are accepted for grants up to the value of $150,000 and all eligible organisations in the region are encouraged to apply.  Grant allocations are announced quarterly and applications are accepted at any time.
