Holidaymakers will have 74 hours from 9am Tuesday 8 June until 11am Friday 11 June to book a range of deals to Queensland’s Whitsundays, Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor said.

Mr Lawlor said travellers should set their alarm clocks and get in early on the deals.

“The campaign will feature on television, press and online in Sydney and Melbourne so soon everyone will know about it,” he said.

“The “74 Islands 74 Hour Sale” offers great deals for people to holiday on the Whitsundays 74 islands and mainland.

“These deals will only be available for 74 hours and local tourism operators will be serving up some fantastic offers - flights, accommodation, transfers and day tours.

“Holidaymakers can book a range of five-night packages on the islands and mainland at great prices.”

Member for Whitsunday Jan Jarratt said there was no doubt that holidaymakers had become more price- conscious and this campaign was a fantastic enticement to book a trip to the Whitsundays at value-for-money rates.

“The Whitsundays is Australia’s premier aquatic leisure destination, boasting unparalleled sailing, cruising and nature-based activities in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef,” she said.

“Last year’s Whitsundays 74 -hour sale was incredibly successful with good sales and media attention nationally.”

“The Whitsundays is gifted with such a wonderful array of natural attractions and experiences that those taking advantage of the sale would not be disappointed.

“In addition to our partner lastminute.com.au, 37 Whitsunday operators have taken part in the campaign, including accommodation, aviation, sailing and tour providers.”

Spokesperson for lastminute.com.au, Angie Bohlmann, said the travel and lifestyle website was delighted to help play a role in stimulating Queensland tourism.

“Queensland is a truly fantastic destination and what better way to help people experience the Whitsunday’s 74 islands than with deals starting from just $74?” Ms Bohlmann said.

“The Whitsundays are always popular on lastminute.com.au, and this 74 Hour Sale offers holidays, hotels and experiences at prices so low that we expect even more Aussies to head to this iconic destination,” said Ms Bohlmann.

Bookings for the “The Whitsundays 74 Hour Sale” can be made from 9am Tuesday 8 June until 11am Friday 11 June - www.lastminute.com.au/thewhitsundays
