A Gold Coast community group has received an $89,000 funding windfall in the first round of the Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund for the year.
Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser today announced Hopewell Hospice Services as the successful recipient.
"This financial support will help the work of the Hospice with their Paradise Kids program," Mr Fraser said.
"The Hopewell Hospice and their volunteers work tirelessly to service their local community."
State Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor said the Hopewell Hospice would welcome the funding.
"The Paradise Kids program has become well established on the Gold Coast, and is completely dependent on community support to continue its services," Mr Lawlor said.
"The services they provide include children's grief and loss support, illness support for children with terminal and life-limiting illnesses, education and counselling services and training courses for volunteers wanting to assist at Paradise Kids.
"They also provide hospice care with eight beds in a home-style setting at Arundel.
"The size of the present Paradise Kids has limited the number of programs that can be offered and there is a need for a new building so they can continue their work.
"Hopewell Hospice has secured a new building and the funding will help them complete the interior with floor coverings and air conditioning."
Mr Lawlor said the Paradise Kids program run by Hopewell Hospice offers a place of comfort and support for sick children, as well as providing children and their families with an opportunity to learn skills that will assist them.
This is the 60th round of funding for the Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund. The fund has four rounds of grants each year with announcements made in March, June, September and December.
Since the fund was established in 1987 with funding sources from a levy placed on the gaming revenue of the Jupiters Gold Coast and Brisbane Casinos, more than $73 million has been distributed to over 2912 projects in South East Queensland.
