MORE than $96,000 will be awarded to six deserving Southport community organisations following Peter Lawlor's announcement today of the latest Gambling Community Benefit Fund recipients.
"For the 51st round of the Queensland Government's Gambling Community Benefit Fund, more than $8.5 million will be distributed between 526 community groups across Queensland," Mr Lawlor said.
"Through the Fund, the State Government continues to support not-for-profit organisations, and ensures the benefits of services and activities offered by hard working community groups remain accessible to local communities."
Mr Lawlor said "it's fantastic to be able to inform the local community groups that have been successful with the funding grant'.
"The recipients are always delighted, and more often than not, the news is met with some loud screams and roars of laughter down the phone line" he said.
Local grant recipients include:
• Gold Coast Little Theatre: $26,959
• Gold Coast Regional Association of Tenants Inc:$8,949
• Gold Coast Seniors Onthenet Association Inc: $21,219
• Hopewell Hospice Services / Paradise Kids: $30,000
• Loders Creek Catchment Association Inc: $4,097
• Southport Pony & Hack Club: $5,708
In conjunction with programs like the Responsible Gambling Strategy, the work of the Fund shows the State Government's commitment to ensure that on balance the State benefits from gambling.
Since its inception in 1994, the Gambling Community Benefit Fund has distributed $316 million to more than 29,000 community projects.
Gambling Community Benefit Fund Committee Chairperson Madeleine McPherson said the Fund continued to have an important role in supporting the community sector.
"I'm pleased that the Fund is again able to provide real help to local community groups, as they are such a significant part of Queensland society," Ms McPherson said.
Revenue for the Fund is generated from levies placed on Golden Casket lotteries, wagering, keno, and gaming machines in Queensland.
Queensland based organisations can apply for up to $30,000 for standard projects, and larger grants may be considered for complex projects.
