The Member for Southport Peter Lawlor has announced a fundamental public consultation session in Southport for all residents concerned about the future of our Gold Coast health service focusing on the new Gold Coast University Hospital.
Mr Lawlor encourages the local community to participate in these consultation sessions to ensure the local's opinions are voiced and heard.
"We all need to get on board to guarantee Gold Coasters' needs are met in our future public health system "Mr Lawlor said.
The following priorities for Gold Coast University Hospital will be focusing on cancer services, cardiac services, neonatal intensive care, trauma and neurosciences.
The Southport consultation session will commence at 2pm on Thursday 18th May 2006. The consultation will be held in Room 5 at the Southport Community Centre in Lawson Street.
These consultation processes are a small part of the big picture in terms of future health care planning by the Beattie Government.
Further investigations into population projections will be undertaken which will aim to accurately reflect patient inflows. These research and planning indicators will better equip our public health service in dealing with patient numbers.
Queensland is the fastest growing state in Australia and the Gold Coast is growing at twice the state average. This unparalleled population growth has increased the demand for public health services requiring both facilities and personnel.
The existing Gold Coast Hospital was designed in the 1970's to serve a population that was only a third of what it is today.
I encourage all residents with concerns, questions or suggestions to partake in this consultation process; we want to hear from you.
