MR LAWLOR ASKED THE MINISTER FOR MINES AND ENERGY (MR WILSON)-
QUESTION:
Will he advise what electricity supply upgrades have been undertaken on the Gold Coast over the past 12 months and if any further work is planned to ensure a reliable supply of electricity to the residents of the Gold Coast?
ANSWER:
I thank the Member for his question. With reference to electricity supply upgrades on the Gold Coast, I have been advised that:
(1) Supply to the southern end of the Gold Coast is currently being reinforced with the installation of high voltage underground cables from Burleigh Heads substation to Currumbin substation at a cost of $26.7 million.
(2) Recent transformer upgrades have doubled the capacity of the Robina substation. ENERGEX replaced the first transformer at the substation in October 2007 and the second transformer was replaced in early April 2008 at a total cost of $7.2 million. This has doubled the substation capacity from 30 megavolt ampere (MVA) to 60MVA.
(3) The capacity of the Southport Substation was substantially increased in April 2007 with the installation of a third 60MVA transformer at a cost of $10 million.
(4) ENERGEX is presently installing permanent supply to the Tugun Desalination Plant. Work is proceeding with the installation of high voltage underground cables from Currumbin Substation at a cost of $10 million.
(5) Powerlink Queensland completed a refurbishment project to replace 110kilvolt switchgear at Mudgeeraba Substation in late 2007, at an estimated cost of $5.2 million.
(6) Powerlink Queensland and ENERGEX have reinforced electricity supply to the Gold Coast with the completion of work to upgrade sections of a high voltage substation at Molendinar. The project was completed in late 2007 at a joint cost of $30 million. In addition to this work, Powerlink also installed a transformer at the Molendinar Substation, completed in late 2007, at a cost of $8.1 million.
(7) To reinforce the electricity network supplying South East Queensland, and ensure continued reliability of electricity supply for the Logan and Gold Coast region, Powerlink Queensland has constructed a new 275/330kV transmission line between Middle Ridge Substation in Toowoomba and Greenbank Substation on the southern outskirts of Brisbane. The $120 million transmission line, was completed in early 2008. Last changed: [PUBLISHED_DATE] at 11:02 AM
