MR LAWLOR asked the Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries (MR MULHERIN)-
QUESTION: Will the Minister advise if any case of equine influenza have been reported on the Gold Coast and what assistance is available from the department to the owners of horses with equine influenza?
ANSWER: 65 Infected Properties have been reported within the Gold Coast City Council area. The Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries (DPI&F) provides a range of services associated with the disease response including advice to horse owners, assistance with Biosecurity and treatments of sick animals. The Queensland Government announced a $20 million assistance package for those suffering as a result of the Equine Influenza outbreak. The package includes: • $5 million for personal support and hardship. One-off payments of $155 are available for eligible individuals up to a maximum of $725 per family.
• $10 million for small business interest subsidy. The $10 million Queensland Commercial Horse Industry Assistance scheme provides payments of up to $5,000 to meet the operating and other essential costs of eligible business enterprises.
• $5 million for horse industry skills retention. This $5 million package will be provided to assist the Queensland horse industry to transition and recover after the crisis.
