A Southport community organisation has been given a helping hand to the tune of $20,402 in the latest round of grants from the Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund, Member for Southport Peter Lawlor announced today.
Mr Lawlor said FSG Australia, formerly known as the Gold Coast Family Support Group, was one of 39 community groups throughout Queensland that would share in more than $1 million from the latest Jupiters funding round.
The fund is generated from a community benefit levy paid by Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast and Treasury Casino in Brisbane from their annual revenue. Grants are distributed quarterly to incorporated not-for-profit community organisations.
"The grants benefit a wide and diverse variety of local organisations in the community, giving them the opportunity to expand on the services they provide to Queenslanders," Mr Lawlor said.
"FSG Australia is one of the largest disability services groups operating on the Gold Coast.
"I'm delighted the organisation will be able to access these funds straight away to immediately start work on their community projects."
Since it was launched in 1987, the Jupiters funds have distributed over $60 million to more than 2,500 community organisations in southern Queensland.
The fund services an area from the Queensland/New South Wales border to the northern boundaries of the central Queensland shires of Boulia, Winton, Aramac, Belyando and Broadsound.
Mr Lawlor said the grants played a vital role in ensuring community organisations were able to undertake essential projects and activities to continue to meet the needs of their areas.
