Local Home and Community Care (HACC) services in Southport will receive additional operating funding of more than $318,000, Health Minister Gordon Nuttall announced today.
"Alzheimer's Association Arundel Respite Care Centre will receive $159,688 to provide social support and centre based day care, including care that is targeted directly to people living with dementia," Mr Nuttall said.
Member for Southport Peter Lawlor said Southport Community Care and Respite Centre would receive additional operating funding of $158,842.
"The Centre will use this funding to provide social support, allied health care such as podiatry, centre based day care, and extended transport services, " Mr Lawlor said.
This increased funding reflects the Government's commitment to meet the needs of the growing HACC-eligible population within Queensland.
The HACC Program is a joint Australian Government and State Program which provides domestic assistance, meals, transport, home nursing, personal care, advocacy and support for carers including centre based day care, and a range of other services which help frail aged people and people with disabilities maintain independence in their own homes.
Mr Nuttall said the funding pool for HACC in this state includes a 2.5 per cent cost supplementation to existing services totalling approximately $4.8 million and an increase in the Meals on Wheels subsidy from $1.60 to $1.80 per delivered meal.
"Increased funding in this financial year will be allocated to priority areas such as the provision of continence management services costing $662,395 and $715,435 to provide additional services to HACC-eligible Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people," he said.
"There will also be an extra $1,236,617 to help the carers of HACC-eligible people in recognition of the valuable role they play in supporting people to remain living in the community, as well as an additional $944,111 for services for people living with dementia.
"Statewide priorities for the coming twelve months will include the continued enhancement of quality assurance of all HACC services and the development of uniform processes for assessment and referral to services within the HACC Program."
