Customised employment assistance is one of the many services the 'Getting Back Out There' initiative will provide to parents and carers wanting to re-enter the workforce on the Gold Coast, Southport MP, Peter Lawlor announced today.

This Queensland Government - funded programme aims to enhance the support of 50 parents and carers from the Gold Coast region in obtaining employment opportunities and adequate business training to better equip them for the workforce.

"When you have been out of the workforce for a long period of time it can be a tough transition fitting back into working life" Mr Lawlor said.

"People can easily lose their confidence and direction and we believe this program will help people make the right choices, better prepare them for employment opportunities and retain those opportunities "he said.

"Career Employment Australia had received an $80, 260 grant from the Queensland Government's Breaking the Unemployment Cycle project to run the aptly named 'Getting Back Out There' project" Mr Lawlor said.

The assistance will be provided in four groups of 10 weeks each over the course of a year.

Career Employment Australia's Business Development Manager Paul Paulson said throughout the project, the participants will each undertake 90 hours of training from the Certificate I in Business - a recognised work preparation qualification - and vocational placements.

"Part of the training will also focus 50 hours of non-technical life skills including career advice, budgeting and confidence building," Mr Paulson said.
