A new State Government service designed to provide advice to Queenslanders about attaining skills and job qualifications is opening its doors in the Australia Fair Shopping Centre at Southport on Monday May 28.

Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor, said the new Skilling Solutions Queensland centre would take the guesswork out of looking for a new career or choosing training.

"These new centres are part of our commitment under the $1 billion Queensland Skills Plan to provide more information about skills options," Mr Lawlor said.

"We'll have consultants on hand to provide face-to-face advice to people about how they can attain skills and qualifications to help them improve their job prospects.

"It's a very convenient way for people to get accurate and up-to-date information about training and career options relevant to their interests, skills and experience.

"This is the last of new centres to be opened in the 2006-07 financial year."

Education and Training Minister Rod Welford said Skilling Solutions Queensland could also provide businesses and employers with information about developing workers' skills to remain competitive.

"The service also offers a brokerage service for people interested in completing an apprenticeship," Mr Welford said.

"I would encourage anyone who is interested in changing careers or re-entering the workforce or developing workers' skills to contact Skilling Solutions Queensland."

Since the first customer service centre opened at the Logan Hyperdome in March 2005, Skilling Solutions Queensland has set up branches in Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Loganlea, Mackay, Rockhampton, South Brisbane, Gladstone, Townsville, Toowoomba, Morayfield, Chermside, Ipswich, Capalaba, Cairns and Woodridge.
