Member for Southport Peter Lawlor MP today congratulated Year 10 Aquinas College student Samantha Gerrard whose artwork was selected from more than 5000 entries to be showcased on the Premier and Education Minister's official Christmas cards.

Mr Lawlor said Samantha's Christmas card design was among seven winning entries chosen from 16 finalists in the 2004 Minister for Education's Christmas Card Competition.

"Samantha will have her work showcased on the Education Minister's official Christmas cards this year," he said.

"Her work will also be featured on some of the Premier's Christmas cards.

"Her outstanding artwork was inspired by the theme 'My School at Christmas' and depicts a choir singing carols in a colour scheme of green and gold.

"Samantha has won a $200 Australia Post gift voucher and a certificate of merit in recognition of her entry. Samantha's school will also receive an $800 Australia Post gift voucher, and a framed and personalised stamp sheet of the student's winning artworks.

"The Minister for Education's Christmas Card Competition is a great opportunity for budding young artists of all ages to have their artwork showcased to a wider audience."

State Communications Manager for Australia Post in Queensland Louise Corrigan, said Australia Post was delighted to be involved in the Christmas Card competition.

"Australia Post supports a diverse range of programs that invest in the future of our society, and in particular we have a key focus on education and literacy," Ms Corrigan said.

The competition was open to all Queensland state and non-state school students.
