Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor, today reminded Queenslanders to have their say on the law governing incorporated associations, before the consultation closes on 22 April 2005.

"The Office of Fair Trading is conducting a comprehensive review of the Associations Incorporation Act 1981 (the Act) to ensure it will be more relevant and user-friendly to meet the interests of all those affected by its operation," Mr Lawlor said.

"This is your opportunity to help make the Act work better for you or your organisation by sharing your ideas on matters raised in the consultation paper and any other issues relevant to the Act.

"The Act affects a wide range of non-profit organisations, including social and sporting clubs, music and art societies, groups with religious, patriotic or political interests, professional associations, and charitable organisations.

"The review will consider issues such as responsibilities of management committee members, privacy of personal information, audit requirements, voting, fees and penalties.

"Your views are important and will assist us in ensuring the Act meets the needs of modern associations and the general community."

To respond to the consultation paper, download it from the Office of Fair Trading's website at www.fairtrading.qld.gov.au and complete the questionnaire or go to the online consultation site at www.getinvolved.qld.gov.au.
