Mr Lawlor asked the Minister for Education and Training and Minister for the Arts (Mr Welford) -
QUESTION:
Will he provide details of the successful implementation of the Prep year at schools within the Southport Electorate including (a) Day eight enrolment numbers for each school and (b) capital works and refurbishment works undertaken in preparation for the Prep year?
ANSWER:
Prep is being successfully implemented in the Southport Electorate, with Prep students enrolled at three state and four non-state schools.
In 2006, schools undertook various activities in preparation for Prep, including visits to prep trial schools and completion of a formal professional development program for school administrators, teachers and teacher aides. Extensive communication with school communities was undertaken to promote Prep to parents and families and to provide the community with detail about Prep eligibility and enrolment arrangements.
(a) Day 8 2007 Prep year enrolments for the Southport Electorate are as follows:

Arundel State School - 95 Musgrave Hill State School - 32 Southport State School - 33
Non-state school enrolments were not available at the time of preparing this response.
(b) The following capital works and refurbishment were undertaken at each state school in the Southport Electorate:
- Two new classrooms at Arundel State School and the refurbishment of two existing preschool classrooms.
- One new classroom built at Musgrave Hill State School and the refurbishment of two existing preschool classrooms.
- Two new classrooms built at Southport State School and the refurbishment of two exisiting preschool classrooms.
