A Southport not-for-profit group is set to be given a boost, receiving financial assistance from the latest grant allocations from the Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund, local MP Peter Lawlor announced today.

"Over $2.3 million will be distributed across the Southern Queensland catchment region serviced by the Fund. It is part of the work of the Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund to ensure that community groups at the local level receive assistance to continue their good work in the area," Mr Lawlor said.

"The grant distributed in Southport forms just a part of the assistance provided by the Fund in the latest two rounds. Helping not-for-profit groups maintain a strong presence in their communities is part of the Queensland Government's strategy to ensure that on balance, the whole state benefits from gambling revenue."

"It is with pride that I can say that since the inception of the Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund 20 years ago in 1987, around 2,900 grants have been released to assist Queensland organisations."

Grant recipients in the latest rounds include:
Organisation Purpose Amount
• St Vincent De Paul - Gold Coast Clothing Distribution Purchase bale press machine $15,771

The Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund is generated from a levy paid on annual gaming revenue by Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast and the Treasury Casino in Brisbane, and services an area from the Queensland/New South Wales border to the northern boundaries of the central Queensland shires of Boulia, Winton, Aramac, Belyando and Broadsound.

The Board of Trustees was appointed to the Fund on August 24, 2007 and is chaired by Ms Sarina Russo. Two rounds of grants have been assessed by the board at their latest meeting, continuing the good work of the Fund in facilitating outstanding outcomes for community groups across Queensland.

Applications are accepted up to the value of $150,000 and all eligible organisations in the region are encouraged to apply for funding. Grant allocations are announced quarterly and applications are accepted at any time.
