The Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor today called on local amateur and professional photographers to get their entries in for the Beattie Government's new Small Business Photographic Awards.

Mr Lawlor said first prize in the Awards was $10,000 and finalists would feature in an exhibition during Small Business Week, starting on Sunday 30th July.

"The Awards have been created to celebrate and document Queensland small business operators who are contributing to our thriving Smart State economy," he said.

"The competition is open to professional and non-professional photographers. We are looking for contemporary images of small business operators that capture the essence of the business and its people.

"Judges include: Mr Anthony Weate, Courier-Mail photographer; Mr Peter Wanny, Associate Lecturer in Photography at Griffith University; and, Mr Michael Choi MP, Chair of the Small Business Advisory Council.

"As well as the Open Award, there will be a Premier's Choice Award for the photo that best displays innovation in a small business and a Minister's Choice Award for the photo that represents outstanding spirit and vitality in a small business.

"The winner of these categories will each receive photographic equipment to the value of $1,500.

"The winners and other short-listed photos will be displayed throughout Small Business Week and then tour the state."

Entries must be in by 5pm on Monday the 10th July. Guidelines and nomination forms are available online at www.smartsmallbusiness.qld.gov.au/photoawards.
