STATE Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor, says he'll be contesting the upcoming State Election with an eye firmly on local issues.

He says that his focus during his time in government has been on education, health, preservation of the Broadwater and community development and sees no reason for his priorities to change between now and the February 7th poll.

" Election time can be fairly distracting for the best of them, but I'm not going change what I've been doing day in and day out for the past three years," Mr Lawlor said.

" I think my record speaks for itself with over $22 million distributed into the electorate over the past three years in the area of education and well over $60 million in health.

" The Gold Coast Hospital alone has received over $58 million - a far cry from the days when the doctors and nurses were marching in the streets because the National Party had ignored community health demands and was literally letting the hospital fester.

" There is still plenty to be done and I'd simply caution people on electing to go backwards with a conservative party when the Beattie Government continues to deliver so much to Southport," he said.
