Christmas has come early for seven local community groups thanks to the State Government's Gambling Community Benefit Fund, the Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor, said today.
Mr Lawlor said the groups would receive a total of $132,458 in the latest round of the popular fund.
Established in 1994, the Gambling Community Benefit Fund provides grants to not-for-profit groups to help them deliver valuable services to the community.
In this round, a total of more than $8 million has been distributed for 538 projects across Queensland.
The local grant recipients include:
Endeavour Foundation - Shannon House $3,235 Endeavour Foundation - Wahroonga Residential $23,846 Gold Coast Advocacy Group Inc $20,989 Gold Coast Phoenicians Multicultural Association Inc $5,541 Hopewell Hospice Services - Paradise Kids $25,677 Southport State High School Parents & Citizens Association $23,170 Street Co Ltd $30,000
"These groups provide a wonderful and vital service to our local community," Mr Lawlor said.
"Through this funding they will be able to continue their work and get new projects off the ground."
Mr Lawlor said the Gambling Community Benefit Fund was generated from a levy placed on Golden Casket lotteries, wagering, keno and gaming machines throughout the State.
"The redistribution of gambling funds ensures that there is a community benefit to gambling in Queensland," he said.
