ANSWER: The Government remains fully committed to supporting the Queensland Police Service with strong legislation to address hoon behaviour on the Gold Coast and throughout the State of Queensland.
Under the anti-hooning legislation, which came into force on 4 November 2002, police have the power to confiscate vehicles used for hooning for 48 hours, following the start of proceedings against the driver.
Repeat offenders risk having their car taken off the road for three months and the possible forfeiture of their car to the State after a third offence.
The new laws have delivered a tough but fair response to the problem of hooning.
Since the introduction of the anti-hoon legislation, police have seized 400 vehicles from the South Eastern Police Region for first offences, with 295 being recorded for the Gold Coast District. Four (4) second offences have been recorded for the Gold Coast District. No third offences have been recorded in the district.
These results show the new laws are working to deter repeat offenders. Last changed: [PUBLISHED_DATE] at 12:00 AM
