Musgrave Hill State School has been recognised for outstanding achievement in Queensland's awards for excellence in state education. Member for Southport Peter Lawlor today congratulated the school on being among more than 70 area winners in the 2005 Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools.
"The school won the award for its behaviour management program, Are We There Yet?, which is based on students taking full ownership and control of their own behaviour," Mr Lawlor said.
"The program involves students in developing behaviour management strategies."
Are We There Yet? includes the use of interviews with parents, doctors and others for children who have special needs.
The program won The Courier-Mail Showcase Award for Excellence in Innovation for the Gold Coast area.
Mr Lawlor said the State Government introduced the Showcase awards five years ago to recognise education practices in Queensland state schools that significantly improved outcomes for students.
"Since its introduction the number and variety of programs being entered has continued to increase, demonstrating the depth and diversity of educational excellence in Queensland state schools.
"It takes a lot of hard work to develop school programs that respond to the needs of all students. I congratulate the school staff behind these innovative programs on their commitment to improving student learning."
Each area award winner received $1000 and will now progress to state judging where a panel of education and industry experts will select 12 finalists.
State finalists receive a further $5000 grant and the opportunity to participate in the 2005 Showcase Awards Expo and Gala Dinner in Brisbane on August 26 where the six state award winners will be announced. State award winners receive a further $20,000 grant and the six runners up receive a further $8000.
The 2005 Showcase Awards for Excellence in Schools are proudly supported by Delfin Lend Lease, The Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Media Monitors and The Courier-Mail. Last changed: [PUBLISHED_DATE] at 12:00 AM
