Local Home and Community Care (HACC) services in Southport will receive new operating funding of $100,000 and capital of $30,000, State Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor announced today.
Alzheimer's Australia (Qld) Inc will receive the $100,000 for purchase of information, education and training services.
A vehicle, computer and other office equipment has attracted $30,000 in capital funding.
"The funds for HACC services around the state recognise the rising number of frail aged people and younger people with a disability in our community who are receiving support services at home," Mr Lawlor said.
"These services ensure quality of life and personal independence are maintained as much as possible at home for our community's most vulnerable", he said.
Mr Lawlor said the services provide a measure of comfort and care in familiar surroundings which help protect the emotional and mental health of HACC clients.
The HACC Program is a joint $249 million cost share program provided by Queensland Health and the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.
Queensland Health Minister Stephen Robertson said the program provides a range of services such as domestic assistance, transport, home modification and personal care to help frail aged people and younger people with disabilities maintain independence in their own homes. "This part of the package concentrates on education and training to give clients even better consultation, advice and improved service delivery," Mr Robertson said.
"The Queensland Government is determined to ensure the highest quality of care for those who benefit from grants under the program." Last changed: [PUBLISHED_DATE] at 2:14 PM
