Keiran Worth started his new career as a paramedic based at the Southport Ambulance Station this week.
Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor, today welcomed Mr Worth to his new position.
Mr Lawlor said Mr Worth was part of a group of 33 new student paramedics hitting the road for the first time this week.
"These student paramedics have just completed their first six-week block of tutorial based classes and will now commence ten months of on-road training," Mr Lawlor said.
"During their initial training period they have completed some of the world's most advanced clinical training, learning skills in defibrillation, injury and extensive trauma treatment, and medication administration under the supervision of Advanced and Intensive Care Paramedics.
"The paramedics at Southport will also welcome their new colleague, as his training in the latest emergency medical techniques will make him a valuable member of the team.
"The training these student paramedics receive is second-to-none.
"They have the skills and knowledge needed to treat patients quickly and efficiently, regardless of the situation."
Mr Worth is one of three new paramedics commencing work this week on the Gold Coast.
Peter Turner and Peter Caldwell will also be starting their first shifts this week at Coral Gardens and Helensvale Ambulance Stations, respectively.
Emergency Services Minister, Chris Cummins said the 33 new paramedics were part of the $35.9 million Beattie Government commitment of an extra 240 paramedics over three years.
"This boost to paramedic numbers is a direct result of the Community Ambulance Cover, which is providing a stable and predictable funding base for our ambulance service right throughout the state.
"In addition to recruiting more paramedics, this week's State Budget includes a record $313.3 million for the Queensland Ambulance Service, ensuring our frontline staff have the facilities, equipment and training they need to do their job as demand for ambulance services continues to grow."
