Treasurer Andrew Fraser today announced a $3,958 grant for the Gold Coast Drug Council in Southport through the latest round of the Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund.
Mr Fraser said the Fund provided a much-needed financial boost for hard-working not-for-profit groups around the State.
"These volunteer and not-for-profit organisations are at the heart of our communities, providing front-line services for families and individuals," Mr Fraser said.
"The Gold Coast Drug Council has received their grant to purchase office and medical equipment to better provide drug harm minimisation services.
"With households tightening their belts on spending, it's important we continue to support community groups, many of whom rely heavily on volunteers and donations to survive.
"The grants enable these not-for-profit groups to continue serving as the backbone for their community, providing tangible benefits through a broad range of services."
Since the inception of the Jupiters Casino Community Benefit Fund in 1987, more than 3,000 grants have been allocated, totalling over $76 million. The Fund is generated from a levy placed on the gaming revenue of Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast and Treasury Casino in Brisbane. It services an area from the Queensland/New South Wales border to the northern boundaries of the central Queensland regions of Boulia, Winton, Barcaldine and Isaac.
Applications are accepted for grants up to the value of $150,000 and all eligible organisations in the region are encouraged to apply. Grant allocations are announced quarterly and applications are accepted at any time.
