Pacific Fair - Harbour Town Bus Services Doubled

Gold Coast residents will get extra bus services from Monday, December 13 when services between Pacific Fair and Harbour Town will be doubled.

Transport Minister Paul Lucas announced today that the extra services were part of a $500,000 Beattie Government election commitment to progressively increase bus services between Pacific Fair and Harbour Town.

"The extra bus services will cater for increasing numbers of passengers travelling between Pacific Fair and Harbour Town and to Griffith University and Benowa TAFE," he said.

"Local residents, tourists, shoppers, students and employees are expected to embrace these new services.

"They are already voting with their feet. Since October 4, when TransLink introduced additional early morning weekday and Saturday services to Harbour Town, patronage on this route has increased a significant 10%."

Member for Southport Peter Lawlor said under the changes, all Surfside route numbers will be progressively converted to a unique three-digit 700 series by mid 2005.

"Surfside route 18b will be renumbered route 738 from December 13," Mr Lawlor said.

"This new system will help passengers distinguish between routes offered by different operators," he said.

Member for Broadwater Peta-Kaye Croft said the changes have been progressively rolled out since 31 March, when the new service was launched.

"From next Monday, route 738 will operate every 30 minutes on weekdays and extend to Harbour Town Shopping Centre Monday through to Saturday.

"Currently this route operates hourly and only travels to Harbour Town on a Saturday so these changes will provide much needed extra services for residents," Ms Croft said.

For timetable information, visit the TransLink website at www.translink.com.au or call 13 12 30. Printed timetables will be available onboard all Surfside buses and from usual Gold Coast outlets from Monday, December 6.
