Architectural planning for the Gold Coast's new $500 million hospital has begun following the completion of a series of community consultaions held across the Gold Coast, Member for Southport Peter Lawlor announced today.
Architects are now beginning to work through issues like access, public transport, parking, and infrastructure needs such as electricity, water, sewerage and drainage and the impacts on government and council services.
Issues and suggestions raised by the public at the forums and consultations will now be incorporated into the Gold Coast Health Master Plan and presented to the Health Minister next month.
An additional 32 - bed medical ward will be open at Robina Hospital next month to meet increased patient demand on the Gold Coast. These extra beds will mean all available beds at the Robina Hospital will be open and accepting patients.
Six additional doctors and the equivalent of 20 full-time nurses have been recruited to staff the new medical ward.
More initiatives are being implemented to reduce the strain on the Gold Coast Hospital with the 3rd floor administration area being transformed into a new ward for approximately 30 beds later this year.
Construction of the new $40.1 million emergency department and intensive care unit at Robina Hospital is progressing on schedule.
These forums and consultations are paramount in helping residents and the government exchange information, ideas and concerns.
