Mr Lawlor asked the Minister for Education and Training and Minister for the Arts (Mr Welford) -

QUESTION:
With reference to schools in the electorate of Southport-
Will he provide details of:

(a) the implementation of the full prep year cohort and
(b) day eight enrolment numbers for each school?

ANSWER:

(a) Principals from all primary schools in the Southport Electorate have reported that since the commencement of Term 1 2008, the Preparatory students have shown considerable development with independence, organisational skills, establishment of
routines and problem solving skills. Principals are receiving numerous positive comments from parents and teachers regarding Preparatory students' advancement with their reading and writing skills as well as social and emotional development.

The capital works and refurbishment works undertaken at each school in the Southport electorate for the Prep year are as follows:
School Scope of works Arundel State School A new two-classroom Prep building, refurbishment of three existing classrooms, a funding allocation for the minor refurbishment of two existing preschool classrooms, and a storage shed Musgrave Hill State School A new one-classroom Prep building, and a funding allocation for the minor refurbishment of two existing preschool classrooms Southport State School A new one-classroom Prep building, a funding allocation for
the minor refurbishment of two existing preschool classrooms, and a storage shed.

(b) The enrolment figures for state schools in the Southport Electorate (from the Day 8 2008 enrolment snapshot) are detailed below:
