The Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor today urged local residents to party safe this Christmas and New Year by registering their party with the local police.
Mr Lawlor said the Queensland Police Service's "Party Safe" initiative provided parents, young people, venue managers and security personnel with a range of precautionary and practical tips to ensure the safety of people attending parties.
"By following the practical "Party Safe" tips and registering a party with local police, residents can be assured of a prompt and appropriate police response should any trouble break out," Mr Lawlor said.
"Everyone enjoys going to or hosting a party. And while most of these parties go off without a hitch, unfortunately trouble sometimes does occur.
"People have the right to celebrate in their own homes without having to contend with gatecrashers.
"Party Safe is not about suppressing the party spirit - it is about providing practical advice on how to host a trouble-free party and what to do if things get out of hand."
