Mr CUMMINS: Planning is well under way for the $2.5 million redevelopment of the existing Southport Fire Station, which is scheduled for 2006-07.
The current fire station has served the area very well but it no longer meets the needs of today's fire and rescue service. This upgrade will bring the station to a standard that meets the requirements of a 21st century service.
The redevelopment is another example of the Beattie Government's commitment to Emergency Services in Queensland.
The redeveloped fire station will house the new Mercedes Benz urban pumper fire vehicle worth more than $469,000 which I officially commissioned at a special ceremony at Southport Fire Station on the 8th April 2004.
The fire vehicle enhances fire service delivery for the busy Southport station, which averages about 200 turn-outs a month. Last changed: [PUBLISHED_DATE] at 12:00 AM
