Ladies and gentlemen,
It is my great pleasure to represent the Minister for Primary Industries and Fisheries Tim Mulherin at the annual Gold Coast Signature Dish Competition.
I have been attending this event for a few years now and I can honestly say the competition and quality of food is getting better and better.
It is testament to the quality of this contest between chefs which has reached its ninth year today.
In previous years, this event has always prompted a rush of interest in local produce from the domestic market and overseas visitors.
And what better place for a quality food event than the Gold Coast, which boasts some of the best restaurants in Queensland and in Australia for that matter.
I'm sure the judges have had a very difficult time settling on just one dish that stands out above all the other contenders and once again I would like to congratulate our winners Adam and Nathan.
This competition is a celebration of the talent of all of our local chefs and apprentice chefs, who have the ability to take fresh Queensland produce and create such wonderful meals.
It also demonstrates the strength of the food chain that links our primary producers to our restaurants and the food service sector.
Events such as this also help to open up new domestic and international market and tourism opportunities for our agri-producers and an ever-expanding range of associated niche industries.
On behalf of the Minister and all Queensland primary producers, I congratulate the chefs and apprentice chefs participating in this year's awards, and also everyone involved in the Gold Coast Signature Dish Competition 2008.
