SOUTHPORT, Arundel and Parkwood are set to reap some major infrastructure and community benefits as part of funding initiatives planned by the State Government over the next three years.
They include significant boosts in the areas of education, housing, police, disability services, health and transport.
One initiative is a massive $9.5 million for 'bus priority measures' to improve bus movement, reduce congestions and improve safety.
This includes works on Smith Street between Olsen Avenue and the Gold Coast Highway and along the Gold Coast Highway from Miami to Broadbeach.
According to lifelong Broadwater campaigner, State Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor, a $396,000 allocation to upgrade oil spill response in the Broadwater is 'the icing on the cake'.
" Earlier this week we saw $2 million allocated for Broadwater dredging at the mouth of the Coomera River and now we have almost an $400,000 recognition of its importance as our primary local waterway," Mr Lawlor said.
" And, as in the past three years, we'll be putting plenty of money into education.
" Under the Smart State Renewal Program the Musgrave Hill State School will receive approximately $447,000 for major classroom upgrades for practical learning activities.
" The Arundel State School will receive approximately $58,000, the Musgrave Hill State School gets around $48,000 and the Southport State School receives almost $42,000 for electricity upgrades under the Wired for the Future program," he said.
Mr Lawlor said there would be $40,000 to upgrade Southport disability services, $318,000 for Southport public housing upgrades and $2.4 million to accelerate work on improvements to the Southport Police Station.
And he said that one of the 'most heartening announcements' was $2.8 million for improvements that will provide safer traffic movement and reduce congestion on Frank Street.
" This will happen through improvements to junctions between Loder's Creek and Steven's Street and at Central Avenue.
" There's been plenty of talk about the problems of Frank Street brought about by high density housing and population growth in other parts of the Gold Coast generally and this allocation can only help alleviate the stresses," Mr Lawlor said
