FOUR dedicated local community groups took the scoop in the latest round of funding from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund, Southport MP Peter Lawlor announced today.
$88,541 will be shared amongst the Southport Red Cross, Abused Children's Trust, GC Multicultural Arts Group and Little Souls Taking Big Steps; a group caring for autistic children.
Member for Southport Peter Lawlor said the Queensland Government's Gambling Community Benefit Fund has awarded the grants under its latest funding round which totalled $8.437 million, which provides an imperative source of funding for hundreds of local community groups.
Among them are Southport groups:
1.Abused Child Trust ($27,108 - fit out contact house) 2.Red Cross Southport ($14,950 - medical equipment) 3.Gold Coast Multicultural Arts Group ($22,767 - develop database) 4.Little Souls Taking Big Steps ($$23,716 equipment & furniture) "These four grants will help a variety of local caring groups in our midst to provide services, leisure activities and greater opportunities to the community," Mr Lawlor said.
"I am extremely pleased that these four, most worthy groups, have been chosen as the recipients. They will be able to access these allocated funds to purchase items and begin work on their community projects. "
The March funding round for the Gambling Community Benefit Fund will distribute just over $8.4 million to 521 projects across Queensland.
Since its inception in 1994, the Gambling Community Benefit Fund has distributed nearly $300 million to more than 27,800 Queensland projects.
Benefits to communities include improved safety of facilities, training opportunities, better access to services, purchase new equipment, building upgrades and greater involvement in community activities.
