Southport not-for-profit groups will be sharing more than $77,000 from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund, Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor said today.
"This is welcome news for the volunteer and not-for-profit organisations that work tremendously hard all year round to provide valuable facilities and services throughout Queensland," Mr Lawlor said.
"It's great to see the variety of worthwhile projects that will receive grants, and realise the advantages that will flow on to local communities once projects are completed."
"In this round, over $9,220,500 has been allocated for 539 community projects.
"The Fund is just one of the ways the Queensland Government is helping many organisations across the State help Queenslanders."
Since the first grants were awarded in 1994, the Fund has assisted more than 31,000 community projects and distributed over $342.5 million in grants.
Through the Gambling Community Benefit Fund grants program, Queenslanders everywhere can benefit from the funds generated by gambling levies.
Grant recipients include:
• Alzheimer's Australia Gold Coast Inc. Upgrade respite house kitchen $30,000
• Australian Native Orchid Society - Gold Coast Group Inc. Purchase computer equipment, camera, PA system $5,657
• Endeavour Foundation - Shannon House Southport Purchase airconditioning, blinds & floor coverings $22,336
• Labrador Sports Club Inc. Install backnet fence $20,000
The Fund distributes revenue generated from levies placed on Golden Casket lotteries, wagering, keno, and gaming machines in Queensland.
Queensland-based organisations can apply for up to $30,000 for standard projects, and larger grants may be considered for more complex projects.
