FIVE local Southport community groups have been announced today as the latest recipients of the Queensland Government's Gambling Community Benefit Fund.
The Kumbari Avenue School received $30,000 to purchase life skills and life experience resources and Little Souls Taking Big Steps were awarded over $26,000 to purchase educational resources and furniture.
The Australian Red Cross Southport were given over $4,000 to purchase a much needed photocopier, The Endeavour Foundation Residential have scooped $20,000 to install air conditioning at Shannon House and the Gold Coast Show Society have secured over $20,000 to purchase portable arena seating.
Since Mr Lawlor's inception as the State Member for Southport over $3 million has been awarded to community groups in the Southport electorate through the Gambling fund.
This fund benefits the wider community as it sees improved facilities, training opportunities, better access to services and building upgrades which all promote a greater involvement in community activities.
"These community groups will be able to access these allocated funds to purchase items and begin getting their community projects off the ground," Mr Lawlor said.
Mr Lawlor said informing the recipients of their funding success was always a pleasurable task.
"The Gambling Community Benefit Fund is usually an essential source of funding for these local groups so there are many emotions once we inform them that their application has been successful," he said.
Revenue for the Gambling Community Benefit Fund is generated from levies placed on Golden Casket lotteries, wagering, keno and gaming machines in Queensland.
The grants are one significant way the State Government assists community groups by returning gambling revenue to hardworking Queensland groups and communities.
"Almost all community organisations in Queensland are eligible to apply for up to $30,000 for standard projects and larger grants may be considered for more complex projects," Mr Lawlor said. .
