Ten local organisations have received a post-Budget funding boost totalling $113,098 in State Government grants, the Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor, announced today.

Mr Lawlor said the extra funds to flow through the community were a bonus after the Beattie Government delivered an outstanding State Budget for the electorate earlier this month.

The grants were awarded under the latest round of the popular Gambling Community Benefit Fund, an important source of funding for thousands of Queensland community and sporting groups.

"The grants benefit a variety of local organisations who commit substantial time and effort to enhance quality of life in the community," Mr Lawlor said.

"I am very pleased that the grant recipients in my electorate will be able to access the funds straight away to purchase their items or carry out their projects."

Community groups in the Southport electorate have shared in more than $2.27 million from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund since Mr Lawlor's election in 2001.

Local grant recipients for the June round are:

  • Australian Native Orchid Society - Gold Coast Group Inc. - $4,000
  • Domestic Violence Regional Service - Gold Coast - $29,238
  • Endeavour Foundation - Southport Business Service - $1,900
  • Gold Coast Athletics Club Inc. - $15,675
  • Gold Coast Little Theatre - $12,672
  • Hellenic Senior Citizens and Cultural Association of Gold Coast Inc. - $10,332
  • Salvation Army - 'Still Waters' Southport - $19,318
  • Serenity Playgroup and Lady Small Playgroup - $3,863
  • Southport & Districts Orchid Society Inc. - $5,000
  • Volunteering Gold Coast Inc. - $11,100
The June funding round for the Gambling Community Benefit Fund will distribute more than $8 million to 540 projects across Queensland.
