Three schools in the Ashmore area are among 333 Queensland non-state schools to share in a $70.3 million commitment from the Bligh Government for improved facilities.

Member for Southport Peter Lawlor said the schools would receive a total of $524,195 from the Capital Assistance Scheme.

"These grants enable school communities to get much-needed projects off the ground," Mr Lawlor said.

"The new facilities will be a boost to each school and are great news for local school communities."

The schools receiving these grants are:

• A B Paterson College, Arundel, receives $500,000 to build classrooms, a media room, staff room, veranda and stairs. The school is contributing $1,655,800.

• Aquinas College, Ashmore, receives $12,028 to refurbish the shade structure and classrooms. The school is contributing $36,361.

• Guardian Angels' Catholic Primary School, Ashmore, receives $12,167 to upgrade student amenities.

Education and Training Minister Rod Welford said the State Government was committed to ensuring all schools in Queensland had high-quality, relevant facilities that served the needs of students.

"Some parents prefer alternative options to the state school system and it is important for the Government to support these choices," Mr Welford said.

"Parents can be assured that these grants will help schools continue to offer a high standard of education for their children."

The State Government strongly supports the non-state school sector and in the 2007-08 budget allocated $49.4 million in capital assistance.
