The Southport Ambulance Station will soon welcome two new international paramedic recruits.
Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor, said Nick Oxley and Jayson Hacker, both of the United Kingdom, were part of a group of 18 qualified interstate or international paramedics inducted into the Queensland Ambulance Service on February 19.
"I welcome Nick and Jayson to Queensland and especially Southport."
"They are joining a very skilful and professional team, and I know the region will benefit from their services."
Mr Lawlor said he deeply admired the work of the region's ambulance officers.
"Paramedics are consistently voted the nation's most trusted workers, and last year an independent study revealed a 97% patient satisfaction rating.
"I congratulate them all on their dedication to providing Queenslanders with excellent pre-hospital emergency health care."
Emergency Services Minister Neil Roberts addressed the group at their Brisbane induction ceremony.
"The 18 new paramedics, including 11 from the UK, come to us fully trained and ready to work."
"The QAS is responding to unprecedented demands for assistance. Last financial year, it responded to more than 800,000 calls for assistance - double the workload of a decade ago.
"These recruits are part of the 250 new paramedics to be employed this year by the State Government.
"The Queensland Ambulance Service is a very widely respected ambulance service, and I wish the inducted paramedics well in their positions."
