Thinking of buying an established business or starting your own venture? Do you want to improve your bottom line, or find out what impact the decisions you make have on your business?

If you are looking for answers to any of these questions than the Gold Coast Regional Centre can help, offering three workshops to local businesses in October.

Member for Southport Peter Lawlor said the first, Managing for Profits on Thursday 2 October, was ideal for businesses wanting to improve their bottom line.

"Managing for Profits caters for new business owners and operators who want to take control of their finances," Mr Lawlor said.

"Through practical exercises, participants will learn knowledge and skills to help them understand the key financial elements of a small business, how to monitor financial performance and factors critical for financial success."

Director for the Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry's Gold Coast Centre Tracey Gilmore said the Considering a Business information session on Thursday 16 October was essential for anyone thinking of getting a new venture off the ground.

"Starting out in business can be intimidating. This session looks at significant issues that should be considered before taking the next step," Ms Gilmore said.

"Attendees will be educated on the fundamentals of business and will hear from a variety of industry experts, including accountants, solicitors and business owners.

"They will also be provided with a 'research workbook' they can take home, and which will assist them in the decision making process."

Ms Gilmore said another workshop, Managing for Cash on Thursday 23 October, would help attendees get a better grasp on the financial side of a business.

"It's designed to teach people how to forecast and manage their cash flow and resources, which will help them in making the best decisions for their firm," Ms Gilmore said.

For more information, or to book one of these workshops, contact the Department of Tourism, Regional Development and Industry Centre on the Gold Coast on (07) 5583 7599 or visit www.regions.qld.gov.au/workshops
