Volunteering Gold Coast Inc has received $480,277 from the latest Home and Community Care (HACC) funding round, Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor and Member for Mudgeeraba, Dianne Reilly said today.
Mr Lawlor said the funding was allocated to the organisation to provide transport services to its HACC clients.
"The funds include $211,277 for operating costs of the transport services, one-off funding of $256,500 to purchase vehicles and $12,500 to set up the new project," Mr Lawlor said.
"The program will be funded for three years with recurrent funding of approximately $210,000 to support transport operations in the second and third year of the project."
Mrs Reilly said the project establishes an innovative model for HACC in the transport sector.
"The transport programs incorporate five services: a taxi voucher scheme, a volunteer driver subsidy scheme, an innovative projects pool of funds, a bus pool and a driver pool," Mrs Reilly said.
"These elements of service delivery will be supported by the purchase of two 12-seater mini-buses with wheelchair hoists, one 12-seater mini-bus without a hoist and two station wagons to complement the fleet of buses."
Volunteering Gold Coast Manager, Richard Patterson said the services and vehicles are aimed at supporting people who are transport disadvantaged on the Gold Coast.
"The project will cover the three HACC areas on the Coast - Gold Coast North, Gold Coast Central and Gold Coast South," Mr Patterson said.
"It is anticipated the services will be administered from the Gold Coast Mobility Office at Tugun and the Volunteering Gold Coast office at Southport."
Volunteering Gold Coast is the auspice organisation supporting the 10 Gold Coast organisations that form the Gold Coast Transport Consortium. Last changed: [PUBLISHED_DATE] at 1:16 PM
