Queensland companies committed to world-class manufacturing have been congratulated by Member for Southport, Peter Lawlor.
Local Southport company Mustang Cruisers were presented with an inaugural Manufacturing Excellence Recognition Scheme award in a special presentation at Ernest, today.
"The scheme recognised Queensland manufacturers for their achievements in a variety of fields including export performance, technology adoption and environmental sustainability," Mr Lawlor said.
"These companies have created jobs, boosted economic growth and strengthened Queensland's position as a global manufacturing competitor.
"Mustang Cruisers took out the award for investment; it's an example of Queensland manufacturing at its best.
"I congratulate Mustang Cruisers on its achievements and urge them to keep working on growing their business and creating more opportunities for Queenslanders."
The Manufacturing Excellence Recognition Scheme is part of the State Government's Making Queensland's Future industry development plan.
The local award-winning manufacturers are:
• Swagman Motorhomes, Gold Coast - for their skills and organisational capabilities development program - It is Australia's largest manufacturer of 'A' motorhomes and has implemented a Skills Development Program for its 120-plus staff, including 20 apprentices, along with a Trades Assistance Program to offer staff retraining. The company's commitment to upskilling staff and rewarding hard work has led to a remarkably low staff turnover of just 2-3% per year.
• Mustang Cruisers, Gold Coast - for investment - It is Australia's largest manufacturer of sports cruisers. The company manufactures a multi-award winning range of luxury sport cruiser powerboats from 28 to 48 feet, and has an intensive R&D program in place and has invested heavily in infrastructure. Its Computer Numerical Controlled milling machine is one of only a few in the world and enables Mustang to design new products and bring them to the market faster than ever.
