As part of the Bligh Government’s ongoing accountability and integrity reform drive the Premier, Attorney-General, and a panel of experts will take part in a live web chat to answer questions from members of the public. Premier Anna Bligh, Attorney General, Cameron Dick, and Members of the Integrity and Accountability Roundtable will be part of the web Q&A forum on September 2 at 1.30pm for one hour and September 7 at 6.30pm for one hour.
Member for Southport, Peter lawlor, today encouraged anyone interested in asking a question to get online and get involved. “We are leading the nation in our integrity and accountability drive,” Mr Lawlor said.
“Good government involves listening to the community – a limitless source of ideas and inspiration.
“And through this web forum, people can ask the questions that are on their mind. “We have also launched a Green Paper which will help shape future accountability and integrity reforms – and members of the public are invited to lodge submissions.”
“I urge locals to get involved and have their say.”
Reforms announced by the Premier as part of an ongoing reform drive in recent weeks include:
- A ban on lobbyists success fees;
- Requiring Government members to meet annually with the integrity Commissioner to discuss their pecuniary interests;
- Requiring Government members to not take part in exclusive political fundraisers with business;
- Ensuring lobbyists are not also serving on Government boards.
Anyone interested in submitting a question, or finding out more about the online web chat, or making a submission to the Green Paper should go to: http://www.premiers.qld.gov.au
The online web forum will take place with the support of the Queensland University of Technology. Questions will be looked at by an independent moderator – and a selection put to the panel. Green Paper submissions close on September 16.
