Best Job candidates get a taste of Aboriginal culture

As part of their tour of Tropical North Queensland, three of the final 16 candidates for Tourism Queensland's Best Job in the World recruitment campaign will receive a traditional ‘Welcome to Country’ and watch an indigenous performance at Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park this morning, Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor announced.

“Anjaan Ganesh from India, Hailey Turner from Brisbane and Ben Henry from France will experience a small taste of local Aboriginal culture this morning, enjoying a theatrical and educational performance by the Tjapukai,” Mr Lawlor said.

“Following their visit to Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park, the unsuccessful candidates will further explore Tropical North Queensland over the next few days.”

Mr Lawlor said the four finalists have had a challenging few weeks, culminating in an intensive three-day interview process at Hamilton Island.

“These candidates narrowly missed out on the island caretaker position, which yesterday went to Ben Southall from Britain,” Mr Lawlor said.

“With more than 34,000 applications, the Caretaker of Islands of the Great Barrier Reef was arguably the most sought-after job in the world.

"The worldwide response to Best Job in the World campaign was nothing short of phenomenal and achieved more than $100 million worth of global publicity for Queensland.”
