A new marketing campaign focussing on luring fun-seeking Sydneysiders to the Fraser Coast was officially launched by Tourism Minister Peter Lawlor today at the Fraser Coast Industry Forum held in Hervey Bay today.

“Tourism Queensland’s Get closer to nature on Queensland’s Fraser Coast campaign, valued at $280,000 runs until 12 July and is hoped to stimulate about a $1.5 million tourism boost to the region,” Mr Lawlor said.

“Run in partnership with Fraser Coast South Burnett Tourism, Fraser Coast Council, and local operators, the campaign aims to promote and raise awareness of the Fraser Coast region.

“The campaign will feature in the Sunday Telegraph and Sydney Mx newspapers, as well as online, including News Digital, Fairfax Digital and Total Travel sites.

“Austereo’s popular 2Day personalities Kyle and Jackie O will also endorse the campaign via live reads and competitions during breakfast and drive time sponsorship.

“Get closer to nature on Queensland’s Fraser Coast aims to appeal to social, fun-seeking Sydneysiders, promoting the range of iconic nature-based experiences available in the Fraser Coast’s Great Sandy Biosphere.”

“Whilst Southerners are turning on their heaters, reaching for their raincoats and getting stuck in traffic jams, they’ll be hit with images and information about our beautiful nature based region,” Fraser Coast South Burnett Tourism General Manager Damien Massingham said.

Mr Lawlor said the State Government and Tourism Queensland’s focus at the moment was on hard-hitting tactical marketing campaigns which involved operators from across Queensland, including the five involved with the Get closer to nature on Queensland’s Fraser Coast campaign.

“The main operators participating in the campaign are Kingfisher Bay Resort, Fraser Coast Cool Dingo Tours, Fraser Lodge Holiday Park, Lady Elliot Island and Whalecove Apartments, all of which are offering quality deals,” he said.

“800,000 domestic visitors went to the Fraser Coast region in 2008, supporting 7000 Queensland jobs.

“The Queensland Government is committed to increasing tourism and will continue to work to ensure the future of Queensland’s tourism industry remains bright.

“Hot on the heels of this campaign, Tourism Queensland, in partnership with regional and local operators, will soon launch their annual $300,000 Fraser Coast Whale Watching campaign.”
