Bligh Government provides free responsible alcohol service training for small community clubs

Minister responsible for liquor and gaming, Peter Lawlor MP, will today officially launch the Training Assistance Entitlement scheme which will help small licensed community clubs meet new Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) training requirements.

New laws introduced in 2009 have made RSA training mandatory for staff involved with the service or supply of alcohol in licensed premises.

“RSA training is one of a number of important harm minimisation measures the Queensland Government has implemented, providing valuable education to those involved with the service of alcohol,” said Minister Lawlor.

From 1 July 2009 to 30 June 2010, eligible small community clubs are able to receive up to $85 to help pay for mandatory RSA training.

“Community clubs are here for the community, operating to promote the common interests of their members and local community,” said Minister Lawlor.

“As such, the Queensland Government is happy to provide financial support to small community clubs to ensure they are compliant with the new liquor licensing laws regarding training.”

Clubs eligible for assistance will hold either a community club (small) licence, community other licence, community liquor permit or a restricted liquor permit.

Eligible clubs must present the completed Training Assistance Entitlement to an approved RSA trainer, which acts as a voucher for training to the value of $85.

“This is a worthwhile initiative that will provide a helping hand to small community clubs doing it tough in the current economic climate,” said Minister Lawlor.

Licensees, or those organising their staff training, must ensure the trainer has been approved by the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR).
