Cardwell community group receives funding boost

A Cardwell community group has received more than $11,000 in the latest round of grants from the Reef Hotel Casino Community Benefit Fund, Minister for liquor and gaming Peter Lawlor said.

The Cardwell and District Historical Society will use the grant of $11,730 to design and print a book on the history of Cardwell.

“These grants are always a welcomed addition for community groups in Far North Queensland,” said Minister Lawlor.

The fund offers grants of up to $25,000 to assist not-for-profit community based groups and organisations.

Mr Lawlor said It was vital that the four community benefit funds continue to contribute to local projects that develop or assist the Queensland community.

“And the application process for funding is now easier for Queensland community groups,” he said.

“A new and innovative online grants management system to help not-for-profit community organisations keep track of their funding applications has been launched by the State Government.

“From the beginning of November, community groups are able lodge their funding applications online – cutting the paper trail and reducing red tape.

“The new web-based system will make applying for funding less onerous.”

Since the inception of the Reef Hotel Casino Community Benefit Fund, over $5.6 million has been provided to more than 1,180 community projects.
