Member for Southport Peter Lawlor today visited the Gold Coast Surgery Centre to celebrate its first anniversary. Mr Lawlor said the $14.5 million Gold Coast Surgery Centre had achieved great success in its first year, ramping up its services to benefit the Gold Coast community. “This centre has reduced the number of people on Gold Coast elective surgery waiting lists and has created increased surgery capacity to meet growing demand on emergency and trauma surgery,” Mr Lawlor said. As at July 31 this year over 3000 procedures have been provided for patients at the centre and since January the centre has also supported a number of new outpatient clinics to assist in fast-tracking day surgery patients through the system. “Thanks to this centre, surgery cancellations have become infrequent and has led to reduced waiting times for many specialities,” Mr Lawlor said. “Dedicated lists, with dedicated surgeons, nurses and support staff are ensuring patients are seen in a timely manner.” Surgical specialities performed at the Centre include ophthalmology, plastics, neurosurgery, gynaecology, urology and general procedures under local and general anaesthetics. It is envisaged that the Surgery Centre will support up to 6000 surgical cases per annum, dependent on demand.
The centre’s first anniversary will be marked by the handover and prominent display of an Aboriginal painting from the Cherbourg community.
The painting recognises the voluntary work of Gold Coast Health Specialists who travel to the Cherbourg community regularly to provide outpatient clinics across a range of specialities. Last changed: [PUBLISHED_DATE] at 11:07 AM
